Nowadays the Berner are very domestic but still having their old skills, like protecting and guarding.
They are very attached to their owners and the children of the house, and they are also very friendly towards other animals.
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a good guardian and he will only bark when necessary.
In their first year the need to be brought up with strict rules, otherwise they not be so easy to command when grown.
