The French Bulldog is an active, powerful built and smooth coated dog. It is known to be intelligent and playful. It even serves well as a watchdog. The colour of the "Frenchie" is brindle, fawn, white, brindle and white. The brindle can be looking solid black but it must always show a trace of brindle (at least some lighter coloured hairs). Solid black qualifies for a disqualiication, togehter with mouse, liver, black and tan, black and white, and white with black.
The easy spottet distinct feature of the breed is the erect "bat ear", preserved mainly by American breeders, since the tendency in Europe in the early days of the breed was the "rose ear".

Naturally welping is a problem in the breed, and many puppies are born through a caesarean operation.
The weight of the French Bulldog ranges from 8 kg. (17,6 lbs) to 14 kg. (30,8 lbs).
