The Bullmastiff was recognized by the British Kennel Club in 1924, but the "Bull-Mastiff", "Keeper's Nighdog" or "Mastiff with a dash of Bull" have existed for centuries.
The old saying "You can not buy devotion, the next best thing is to buy a Bull-Mastiff" is still true. The Bullmastiff is a reliable watchdog, devoted to his family and capable of differentiating between friend or foe. He will love the children of the family and defend them with no hesitation.

The Bullmastiff is a powerfull built and symmetrical dog, with a great strenght, heavy bone, broad and deep chest with a great all over muscular development. Although not one of the biggest Molossers, he is very muscular and maybe one of the most powerful Molossers. The Bullmastiff is far more compact than the Mastiff and far more muscular.
The skull should be large and square, not too much wrinkled and no wrinkles when in repose. Short muzzle, blunt and cut off square, with a level mouth, undershot allowed but not preferred.
The colour of the Bullmastiff is fawn, red or brindle but always pure and clear. A white patch on the chest is allowed. The muzzle to be dark, toning off towards the eye.
The Bullmastiff male should be 63,5-69 cm. (25-27 in) at the withers, the female 61-66 cm. (24-26 in).
The weight for the male 50-60 kg. (110-132 lbs), the female 41-50 kg. (90-110 lbs).
